The French Ambassador was summoned by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan to address the need for clarification on a recent meeting held between President Emmanuel Macron and representatives of the “Dashnaktsutyun” party and the Armenian lobby in France. Media reports highlighted statements allegedly made by President Macron during the meeting, causing concerns and emphasizing the importance of providing explanations and clear information.
The Azerbaijani officials emphasized the importance of clarifying these statements made on behalf of President Macron. Representatives of “Dashnaktsutyun” and the Armenian lobby claimed that President Macron, in a phone call following a meeting in Chisinau, expressed being more active on the “Karabakh issue” than Prime Minister Pashinyan and promised to further increase his involvement.
The French Ambassador responded by stating that she does not have information regarding these specific statements. The Azerbaijani side emphasized its expectation of official confirmation or denial of the opinions attributed to President Macron by the French government. Should the statements be confirmed, Azerbaijan does not rule out taking appropriate diplomatic actions.
