Unable to digest the existence of the Lachin border crossing point, established by the Republic of Azerbaijan to control its borders and prevent Armenian provocations, the Armenian side, without coordination with our country, is sending car convoys under the guise of “humanitarian cargo” to the sovereign territories of Azerbaijan. This constitutes a violation of Azerbaijan’s territorial integrity and sovereignty and is another provocation against the “Lachin” border checkpoint.
The fact that the Armenian side took this step immediately after the talks in Moscow, where detailed discussions on the current situation were held, shows that this country is insincere in the process and intends to mislead the international community, exacerbating the situation.
This provocation by the Armenian side, including the shelling of our border guards in Lachin on June 15 and the attempt to smuggle contraband, is a vivid example of this country’s treacherous aggressive policy.
This provocation once again shows that Armenia’s statements about a “tense humanitarian situation in the region” are nothing more than an intention to continue manipulations and unlawful activities.
Despite the Azerbaijani side putting forward a number of proposals, including the use of the “Agdam-Hankendi” road and other alternative routes to meet the needs of Armenian residents, and these proposals being supported by the European Union and the International Committee of the Red Cross, the Armenian side rejected all proposals and hindered the transportation of ICRC cargoes through the roads indicated by Azerbaijan, blocking access to the territory by erecting concrete barriers on alternative roads, which indicates that their statements about the humanitarian situation are political blackmail. These steps, along with the politicization of humanitarian activities, contradict their statements of recognizing Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The mentioned provocation also involved the European Union mission in Armenia and the diplomatic corps, demonstrating that it was a pre-planned move.
We once again demand that Armenia refrain from such provocations.
