“The Recognition of Azerbaijan’s Territorial Integrity Should Not and Cannot be Misinterpreted as a Privilege for Ethnic Cleansing in Nagorno-Karabakh.”
Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan made this statement during a special session of the OSCE Permanent Council convened at Armenia’s request.
“As recently stated by the Prime Minister of Armenia, we are ready to recognize Azerbaijan’s territory of 86,600 square kilometers, which includes Nagorno-Karabakh. However, we emphasize that the issues of rights and security of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh should be discussed within the framework of an international mechanism and dialogue between Stepanakert and Baku,” stated Mirzoyan.
He presented the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Artsakh, caused by Azerbaijan’s unlawful blockade of the Lachin corridor.
“These deliberate actions by Azerbaijan can only be described as illegal and inhumane. They not only violate the fundamental rights and dignity of people but also seek to create unbearable living conditions and subject Nagorno-Karabakh to ethnic cleansing. We are convinced that sustainable peace in the region is possible, but it requires the parties to demonstrate maximum willingness to address the root causes of the conflict. In this regard, the issue of rights and security of the Armenian population in Nagorno-Karabakh is of crucial importance,” added Mirzoyan.
