According to Aravot.am, Balasanyan was arrested at his home in Askeran. His son, brother, and nephew were also detained. “The general was arrested in a demonstrative manner, with masked individuals twisting their arms,” the publication writes.
The information was confirmed in a conversation with Aravot am by Metaxa Akopyan, a member of the “Justice” faction of the Artsakh Parliament.
Naira Zohrabyan, former deputy and head of the human rights organization “Security and Democracy,” wrote on her Facebook page that the Artsakh National Security Service conducted a search of Balasanyan’s apartment for about 40 minutes, after which he and his son were taken into custody.
Former Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh Vitaly Balasanyan is accused of money laundering on a particularly large scale, involving a state loan of 74 million drams that was registered in his son’s name.
