Vice-Speaker of the Armenian National Assembly, Akop Arshakyan, stated that the process of joining the Rome Statute is not directed against Russia, as reported by the parliamentary press service, in response to the concerns raised by Yuri Vorobyov, the Deputy Chairman of the Federation Council of Russia.
Arshakyan emphasized that the process of ratifying the statute began long before the International Court’s decision regarding Russian President Vladimir Putin. He added that Yerevan is engaging in negotiations on this matter with Russia at the level of foreign ministries.
“The issue of adopting the Rome Statute is actively discussed in the expert circles of the Armenian and Russian foreign ministries, and it is in no way aimed against Russia but rather serves to prevent any Azerbaijani encroachments on Armenia’s sovereign territory,” stated Arshakyan.
